Battlestar Galactica and its compilation sequel, Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack in 1979, were the last films released using the Sensurround process). As bad business and loneliness is taking his toll on private detective Philip Marlowe, a beautiful blonde arrives and asks him to find her ex-lover, which proves to be just a small part in a bigger mystery. The TV version also includes additional scenes that expand the relationship between Starbuck and Athena, that reveal the Cylons as pure robots (instead of aliens in armored suits), and that replace some of the alien creatures in the Carillon casino with human actors.

is bold and the opening shots of the Galactica roaring across your screen is sure to shake your floorboards. The f/x material is not as good as the scenes shot on the sets, the matte lines are obvious, but it's still very watchable. There’s also additional footage that makes more explicit and obvious the Galactica crew’s plot to fool the Cylons on Carillon, and the sex scene between Starbuck and Cassiopeia is also edited for TV to remove obvious nudity in the theatrical cut. I do find it striking to compare Tom Baker's first season to Space:1999, which both premiered in 1975. Dialogue is clean and easily discernible, with a nice bit of sonic play involving com chatter during the space combat scenes.Cheers Red, nostalgic news as I remember going to see it over the Easter school holidays back in 1979, it turned out to be a bumper week off as Superman The Movie was released around the same time.

My subwoofer is turned down considerably as I live in an apartment, but I could definitely still make out the rumble of bass in many shots. DTS-HD Master Audio mix, which recreates the original theatrical mono with low-frequency Sensurround. Highlights steal the show on this disc, with lots of laser blasts, explosions, engines, and other highlights never looking better. The quality of that audio however isn't very smooth; it sounds made up or has some kind of characteristic like it was generated somehow with a weird buzzing sound or whatever.Starbuck was shirtless when he was caught by Athena on the monitor with Cassiopia in the launch tube. If you were fortunate enough to watch the original TV broadcast back in 1978—on the ever-popular ABC Sunday Night Movie—the experience you had then was a pale shadow of this new 4K UHD. They used extensive use of multiple exposures of ships on rods against black combined with camera fly-bys to create multiple Eagles/spaceships in a single shot and the results speak for themselves.

Unfortunately, Universal’s new 4K Ultra HD release includes no special features and has only a very basic menu screen. The only other time (at that point in my life) where I experience anything like that was from some organ music playing at Radio City Music Hall.

I remember how raunchy and risqué Soap was considered to be - and how tepid it is now in comparison. For its theatrical release, the 148-minute pilot film (which aired on ABC TV on September 17, 1978) was edited down to 125 minutes. Firstly, was looking forward to seeing the ravishing Wilma Derring in 4K, only to realise that’s Buck Rogers .

The theatrical cut ran on HBO for awhile back in '79, presumably because of the Star Wars– Star Trek mania of the time, and is the best of Galactica, if there is such a thing. But the real improvement here is the color palette, which has always seemed limited on DVD but now looks much bolder and more richly saturated.
