I was so happy for Xara and Delton being able to work through their combined trauma, and fight for each other and their own wants/aspirations as well. If you like enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, and betrayal/ revenge stories, this one might be for you!

i tried so hard so enjoy this, but i’m almost halfway through and just can’t bring myself to care about the characters or the story. The reason of that is this: we have a wave of tropes coming our way, tropes that are becoming a thing in the reading world, tropes that are liked by a big portion of the reading population, such as the big alpha male, the overprotecting and possessive husband, the “touch her and I’ll kill you” line, the immediate sexual tension even when the characters don’t really know each other, the “I don’t want anyone looking at her but me” line, along the “when the time comes that I put my seed in you, you will never leave my side” trope, the “I don’t care if I hate him, I will kiss him like crazy” line, the “good girl” line and to not keep going, the “you are mine” line and trope. If you like a good enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, second chance, and betrayal/revenge, then make sure you check this one out today. Not just difficult living conditions but is also recovering from a past assault that has physcially and mentally scarred her. The only reason I'm giving this book four stars instead of five is that there were a few instances where I wished for a bit more depth and clarity in certain parts and additional exploration of some subplots. In their increased proximity to each other and trying to find out each others secrets, feelings are developed and lines are blurred.

Princess Eva’s always known her long-standing betrothal to King Paul of St Ancilla is a political match. e. Karina for not being as softhearted and emotional as Xara, thus pitting women against each other. Every single coded note, every day that brought something to take her father and brothers from the safety of home, and every strange man who came in the dark of night and left before sunrise. And then the worst happens, Delton realizes he is in love with Xara and plans on telling her which also happens to be the same night they planned to capture Ifer. You won't marry him until his sixteenth birthday, of course, but the people can rest in the assurance that something is being done.

i also feel this could've finished in numerous other places (before it actually ended) and it didn't need to be this long, but no complaints from me bc i can eat up anything from this world ngl i love it so much. years later and Delton finds he needs his wife Xara to take down the infamous crime Lord Ifer but the weak people pleaser he once knew has changed over the years and Xara is stronger then ever . A tap on the door startled her, and she got to her feet so quickly, she was almost overtaken by sudden dizziness. Happily engaged to the poet Amandus, Fräulein Anna is horrified to discover that a beautiful ring, mysteriously deposited upon her finger whilst tending her kitchen garden, forces her into marriage with the gnome Corduanspitz. It seemed like so much led up to the reveal of Ifer’s identity, so I expected a more explosive final few chapters.
