Description

This engrossing book explores the scandal and intrigue behind each royal dynasty, from the ‘accidental’ murder of William II in 1100, through the excesses of Richard III, Henry VIII and ‘Bloody’ Mary, to the conspiracies surrounding the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997, William and Kate Middleton’s on-off courtship before they married, and Prince Harry’s years of partying, girlfriends and Las Vegas strip poker, before his 2018 marriage to American divorcée Meghan Markle. Historical details themselves, such as the American Revolution, are mentioned briefly in context of the overall reign (Cromwell is omitted entirely, for those wondering). If you have any interest in a fascinating look at some very dysfunctional, rulers, I highly recommend this compendium. Nope, all is fine, and due to Anne I's tragedy of all 17 children dying at birth or shortly before, we get the Georges.

With crisp biographies of each sovereign, illustrated with contemporary portraits, painting, or statues. The story of the life of Queen Elizabeth II, told through her clothes and jewellery - and a gorgeous gift to treasure. Though I do have to give credit for the author of the section on the Hanovers - it was better than other references I've read. The ideal history book for history buffs of all ages, whether you are or know of a fan of royal history, or looking for the perfect gift book for history students - Kings and Queens of England and Scotland is your go-to guide for a complete history of the monarchy. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever wondered how it all happened without having to delve into too many details.By submitting a review you grant us the right to display and use it in any way; please read our General Legal Notices for full details.
